Fiddlers Wharf

Fiddlers Wharf is an EM gauge layout originally built by Paul Gregory as an experiment with DCC operation. It is a shunting puzzle loosely based on an Inglenook track plan. The aim being to shunt wagons onto the front line in the sequence denoted by randomly selected cards. The task is made difficult because the headhunt will only take two wagons and the engine.

Trackwork is handbuilt from EM Gauge Society plans using copper clad sleepers and phosphor bronze rail to give a rusty tinge effect. Turnouts are operated by wire running through a tube buried in the track bed, the wire is attached to slide switches which also change the polarity of the tunout V's. Paul used an NCE Power Cab unit to control the layout but the it is also wire for DC operation. Buildings and scenic effects are all scratch built by Paul from plasticard and other bits and pieces he found in his scrap box.
